Vivienne Scott visits the Ambleside Club

Vivienne Scott at The Ambleside Club with our late night dancers

On 22nd May, 2006, we had the unexpected pleasure of choreographer Vivienne Scott visiting our Monday night venue at the Ambleside Club.

Ex Local girl Vivienne now living and working from Toronto, Ontario, Canada was visiting relations in and around Shoebury while undertaking a UK tour. We'd known Vivienne for some time now and she has always had an open invitation to visit us "whenever you're passing".

Vivienne contacting us asking whether it was ok to come and see us at the Ambleside. Didn't really need to think about that one, the answer was an immediate 'Yes, love to see you there'.

Vivienne arrived at about 7·30 during the beginner's session and, after a quick chat with Wendy (I was teaching so I could only really wave at this time) joined in at the back.

A bit later during the 'After Eight' session, Vivienne was kind enough to teach her dance 'Dance Zone' (steps). I'd warned Vivienne that instead of using the track that she had choreographed the dance to, I was going to use 'Sweet Nothing' by The Deans, not a track that she was familiar with although she had heard the Brenda Lee original.

Undeterred by the prospect of using a track she's never heard (she trusts me, I thought, time to mention that offshore investment opportunity !!!!!), Vivienne taught the dance to a full floor and liked the music so much (it phrases perfectly and, I think, actually adds to the dance) that she is going to add it to the recommended tracks on the official step sheet.

Throughout the evening, Vivienne joined in the dancing and participated in all the dance reviews covering the previous few weeks, and taking a few dances that she liked away with her (you really have to admire Vivienne for joining in on 'The Reel Thing' after never having danced it before).

After the last dance, Vivienne kindly posed for some photos with me and some of our late-staying dancers (reproduced on this page) and also went through some of her latest dances with me, leaving some step sheets behind. There is some very good stuff in there ('Mestizzo', 'Don't Let Go' & 'Sleeping With The Past') which we'll certainly be teaching in the future at different venues. By the way, if anyone wants step sheets for any or all of these dances, please contact me.

Once again, many thanks to Vivienne Scott for taking the time out from a very busy schedule to come along to the Ambleside Club and to teach us and also dance with us. You've made a lot of new friends and caught up with a few older ones to - you're welcome back anytime.
