Breast Cancer Charity Line Dance

Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon Saturday, October 8th saw Tulsa Shuffle Line Dance Club and Tony's Country Steppers jointly host a line dance at St. James Hall, Elmsleigh Drive, Leigh-On-Sea in aid of Breast Cancer Care. Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon
Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon We all arrived early to get the hall ready for the dancers and to set up the PA. Based on ticket sales, we were expecting a capacity crowd and people started to arrive from around 7·15. By just after 7·30 the place was 'heaving' (really pleasing to see such a good turnout). Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon It was a request night, and I kept a constant flow of music featuring what I hoped was a good cross section of old and new dances to try and keep as many people on the floor as possible although I had so many requests that it proved a physical impossibility to play even half of them. Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon During the course of the evening, Tony 'speed' taught a couple of easy beginner dances for those who were either beginners or new to linedancing. He taught CC Shuffle and Tail Lights to a packed floor each time so well done Tony. Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon
Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon We had a door prize, a raffle and a 'chocolate' competition cunningly based around confectionery and devised by Mandy & Gary and the only dance I could really play after that was of course 'Mars Attack'. Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon
Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon All in all, including a very generous donation of £10 by Gary NOT to play the Bay City Rollers for Do Wop Be Do Be Do - I only found out later that he was prepared for a 'Bidding War' and would have gone to £20 for the pleasure of not hearing the Rollers (Doh!!) the evening raised a very creditable £755 (new total revised upwards following Mandy selling the remaining wristbands and Yvonne very kindly saying that "it's not a nice round number" and then dipping into her purse to make yet another donation thus bringing it up to £750). A subsequent donation raised the 'final' total still further to £755. Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon
Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon Can I please take this opportunity to thank everyone who gave up their time both in the organisation and execution of the event and contributed greatly towards the success of the evening. Can I thank all those who couldn't make it on the night, but sent in a donation anyway. Thanks also to St James Hall for a serious concession in the cost of the hall for the night and also to BBC Essex Radio and particularly Angela Lodge for featuring the event on the radio on Thursday 6th and for allowing me (Mick) to be interviewed live to promote the Breast Cancer Care fundraiser.
